Everything You Need To Know About GA4
Tracking website data for analysis should be at the core of any business who wants to maximise conversions and assist in decision-making, with information and insights about their customer’s and prospective customer’s behaviours and trends.
Tools such as Google’s Universal Analytics have been at the very core of this for years now, helping business to learn how many visits they received on their website per month, how long a user stayed, to whether or not a user submitted an enquiry via a contact form.
However, this traditional tracking method used by the hugely popular Google Analytics, is about to be sunsetted. In its place, Google have announced the shift to GA4 (Google Analytics 4).
Read on to learn more about why Google are sunsetting Universal Analytics, the transition towards GA4 and what it means for DigitUX clients looking to make the most of data in their decision-making going forwards.
Why are Google sunsetting Universal Analytics?
Universal Analytics will stop processing data from July 1, 2023. There are a few reasons for this, with one of the most important being that Universal Analytics is unable to deliver intricate insights into cross-platform traffic. Poor performance in this area leaves companies in the dark about some of their web traffic, causing businesses to make poor decisions.
Instead, Google is focusing on developing and perfecting GA4, a new analytics tool. As GA4 is a transformative tool that requires a lot of time and attention, the search engine giant has chosen to transition away from supporting Universal Analytics and put all of their time and attention into perfecting GA4.
What is GA4?
GA4 stands for Google Analytics 4, and is a new analytical tool provided by Google to improve the way that organisations track metrics. This includes a transition towards event-based data rather than session-based information, predictive capabilities for long-term metrics and direct integration into a variety of media platforms.
The new analytics platform looks to give companies a more comprehensive view over accurate information, resulting in greater targeting of information and better-supported decision-making.
