Email still plays a vital role for reaching existing and potential customers, so no matter what size your business is, take note of these top 10 email marketing tips.

No matter what information you are communicating online i.e. emails, website, social media – you should always make sure that it has been optimised for mobile users, as they make up a considerable chunk of users – in some cases, the majority!

By signing off your emails with a real person, you create a more personal touch for your customer and don’t leave them perceiving your brand as ‘faceless’.

If your emails include newsworthy and sharable information that others might find useful, then add some social sharing buttons. Even just 1 or 2 shares per email will help you extend your reach further.

Including alt text to images takes no time at all, and its extremely valuable to those email clients that don’t automatically download images. That way, no matter what the image settings are, you can ensure your recipient gets the context of what your images are conveying.

This should be an obvious one, but it happens! Even if your email list seems small, it’s still better than blasting thousands of random recipients who have no idea who you are and how they got on your mailing list. Furthermore, the chances of converting a random recipient are practically non existent – so save your time and money.

Following on from our last point, you should always abide my spam rules and never send something to somebody if they haven’t subscribed in the first place (we all know how annoying this can be!).

Nobody has time to read as essay of an email, so be sure to get to the point! What’s more, users lose interest within only a couple of seconds anyway.

A good subject line will help to ensure that your email actually gets opened. Make these short and intriguing so that you can get as many opens as possible for your emails.

All emails should include some type of call-to-action (CTA), otherwise – what is the point? Your CTA should be clear and enticing – get creative!

Once you’ve hit send, you’ll need to monitor the performance such as open rates, bounces and click throughs – all of which can be tracked using even free email marketing software programs such as MailChimp.

By tracking performance, you can make sure that every new email you send is an improvement upon the last.
